October Studio Update
October 20th, 2007 by E.M. August
So first off, Still Life And Waking Dreams is totally written. I have moved the material out of pre-production and all the tracks are sitting over at NUM Studios where Jason Prost (of mindFluxFuneral) and I are laboring away on the production. This is what we will be doing Saturday's for the next 2 months, at least. Part of the greatness of working at NUM is that the facilities there are really great. Mostly though, working at NUM is great because Jason is an amazing man and any chance to spend some time with him is time well spent to me.
For all the tech head curious, the gear impacting this record right now is a pretty short list: An Access Virus Indigo II Redback, Nord Lead 2 and Sherman Filterbank 2.
With Breath And Decay it has always been my goal to get a really big sound, and to me the big sound has always been the result of using a small amount of amazing sounds. I'm not really one for layers and layers on top of each other, the mud that sort of thing brings just doesn't work for my ears. As I get a bit farther in my work at NUM I may update this to include some of the gear there we are experimenting with... hint: Moog Rogue, ARP...
If anyone would like to ask questions about what we have going on I will be adding a simple little form to the right hand menu of this page - For the time being feel free to drop an email with whatever you are curious about and I will try to get back to you as quickly as I can. I will probably post the answer up here to so everyone can take something away.
In my next update I will try and write a bit more about the space I am working in and perhaps the artistic process behind Breath And Decay.
